Obviously when Phantom went global, new lyrics to the songs had to be written in a number of different languages, and often these new lyrics have different meanings to the original English. Some are infinitely more beautiful, some are just different, and some are just ... odd. Anyway, here's a place for discussing these lyrics -- what you like, don't like and so on and so forth.
Let's start with Think of Me, French version. (Translation courtesy of yours truly ... find a mistake, please point it out!)
French
CHRISTINE
Pense à moi qui me réveille
English translation
CHRISTINE
Think of me, think of us two
After our good-byes
Do not forget me wherever you go
Promise me tonight
When the instant will seem to come to you
To rewin your liberty
Slip me from one time to another
There, in your thoughts
Oh, no, never did we believe the love
Irreprochable and infinite
But one day if you move away
Think of me, too
Think of the time where all used to seem easy
Tell yourself that after the rain, tomorrow is jubilant!
Think of me who wakes up
So alone and without hope
Who dreams and prays that finally time
Tears you from my memory
See those days again, think of those instants again
The little nothings used to seem so sweet
There will never be a day
Without that I think of us
RAOUL
It is incredible! Isn't it Christine? Bravo!
You are no longer the slightly strange little girl
That I knew a day in the distance
Will you remember us?
Because me, I forget nothing
CHRISTINE
Flowers and fruits, all is only here for a time
The big outburts do not last
But do you want to promise me?
Think also of me!
Thoughts? I'm quite fond of the line 'Les petits riens semblaient si doux' -- it sounds so pretty, and the translation ('The little nothings used to seem so sweet') is also lovely, and rather poignant, more so than the original English 'Think of the things we'll never do.' In my opinion, anyway
