It's not actually my school...it's an after school thing. We're doing the whole thing....probably. If we're not good enough we're doing a shortened version. It's the first time this organisation has done a full production...I wonder if the teachers know it's illegal. Although I don't know if it'll be open to the public. We pretty much changed everything this semster. Last time, we had to perform wtih all these little kids who can't sing, but the older people get to do a big production by themselves this time. I'm not quite sure how it's going to work. Ususally it's just paretns, but since we're doing such a huge production, they may change it.

Hmm. I would definitely ask whoever's running about it, because the rights in general have not been released. If anyone were to find out... which, if you're performing, they probably will... you could get in a LOT of trouble. No matter if it's a school production or community or even Off-Broadway. The rights probably won't be available until the musical has finished its run.
----
In other news, things at Godspell have been going great! We're finally getting things done, which makes me happy... had a dance rehearsal yesterday, and I tell ya, it'll be interesting to sing and dance at the same time! *does a little jig* It doesn't hurt that I still stand out even though I'm in chorus... I'm always in the middle on the risers, and at rehearsal, I'm like the flirt of the group! It's so much fun lol I'm a chorus girl with a difference! Woooot!

^That's true abput copyrights. I asked my dad about it, and he said it was illegal. But I hope you will be able to do the show, though, Jaycee . As for me...nothing great going on in my life. I haven't been on much because, apparently, teachers think it's "fun" ( : to heap projects on students this time of year. Speaking of, I'm actually supposed to be doing research on a Chinese invention right now...*sneaks away* BTW, it might just be me, but is that Kristen Chenoweth in your avatar, Simple Rose?

Meep. I haven't posted in the longest time ... I've been busy doing other things ... like shopping in Nice and eating chocolate croissants ... Angel is in FRANCE!!! And incredibly excited, to say the least. It's really intense, though. Right now, I'm staying with a host family in Aix-les-Bains, an alpine town that is really gorgeous, but really cold. I had my first day at a French school today ... that was an experience and a half! There was a lesson on what I think was Serbian politics and ethnic cleansing. I understood zilch. But the funniest thing was a German lesson in French. And I know four words of German, and that's it. The weirdest thing is that I'm beginning to think in a language I've dubbed 'franglais'. Basically, it's English with French grammatical structure and random French words thrown in. I actually have to think really hard to type this in passable English. Odd. I've also learned a ton of swear words, which I find hilarious. In Nice, we went to an international language school, and one girl just asked the teacher if he would teach us how to swear. His answer? "Why not?" And guess what I bought! Leroux ... in French. I can't wait to read it. I also bought Les Mis in French ... that'll take a while to get through, though. Alors, c'est tout pour moi! And Jaycee, I honestly don't know what to say. I'm certain that it's illegal for a non-professional company to perform Phantom; I read an article about a group who tried and they fully got busted. Anyway, if you do do it, good luck, and I'm so incredibly jealous

Can we trade places, Angel? Pretty please? You'll get to learn about the invention of paper and silk weaving if you agree! Fun....
Eh, can't stay too mad for long, I guess. Because I'm going to New York City this summer ;D! My whole family is coming, and we're going to see everything- Ground Zero, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, American Girl Place ( I ADORE those American Girl dolls), and possibly POTO or Wicked on stage.
I think I'll try to convince my family to take a "side trip" to any supposed haunted places there- I'm such a ghost geek.

It is the best friend of every elementary school french immersion student. About my theatre group, they have totally rewritten the script to adapt to the number of people in the group, and a bunc hof the lines weren't even in the original. I know we're allowed to do that because we did it last year with Cats, so it's definitely on. And I'm definitely Meg, which is very exciting!

I'm back! And totally jet-lagged. Gotta love that six-hour time difference ... and the freaking eighteen-hour flight Paris was INCREDIBLE. If anyone's interested, I'll post some photos later. Our youth hostel was right near Notre Dame and we walked by it every day. We also went to the very top of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe (at night, so we could look over at the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysees all lit up), the top of Notre Dame, underneath Notre Dame, the Louvre (where it was easier to get to the Mona Lisa than Venus de Milo ...), the Musee d'Orsay, Galaries Lafayette, the Moulin Rouge (just the outside in the middle of the day ... not that impressive), Sacre-Coeur, and ... l'Opera! Over that time, I managed to earn myself title of 'Resident Hugo-Nut', and on the last morning, one of the teachers took me for a walk to see where Victor Hugo lived. She's so lovely. In Aix-les-Bains, I also managed to turn my host sister into a phan. I was playing the title song on their piano, and she became obsessed with that, got the sheet music for herself, downloaded the album and borrowed my new French Leroux in the space of about two days. She also really wanted to see the movie, so we tried to rent it, but they didn't have it. We watched Love Actually in French instead. Anyway, I'm very proud of myself. She didn't finish the book before I left and doesn't really understand the English lyrics, so I don't know if she'll turn out EC or RC. Time will tell. And Jaycee, that's really exciting! Hope your production goes well, and there aren't any annoying legal technicalities left ... I'm sure you'll have a blast. I'm a bit annoyed because I missed out on a community theatre Guys and Dolls audition, but I was in France at the time, so I guess it's okay. There'll be more auditions. At the moment, I know that later in the year my Drama class will be performing Metamorphosis, so I'll get to perform in at least one show in this year! Also, next week, our school musical, Sweet Charity (the one I'm not in), will be performed ... I really hope I don't stuff up anything stage-handing. We've got two tech rehearsals left and then four performances. Exciting!

You are so lucky! You got to see all of that stuff, and I just had to learn about it in classroom, which was just boring. I'd love to see the pictures you mantioned! And congrats on converting yet another person into a phan. Someday, we shall rule the world. Hopefully there will be more R/Cs by then, because I'm really tured of all the bashing!

Angel, you're so lucky! I wish I could see the Eiffel Tower all lit up. I agree with Jaycee, please post pictures! Meanwhile, I've discovered a new obssession in...Cats! My mom had had the video for a gazillion years, but never watched it, so I chose to see it for myself. I fell in love with it a few seconds after "Are you blind when you're born?" And for all of today, I've been searching Cats fansites.

And...I have just survived the hell that is the SAT. -_-

Heyy, I saw a video of Cats the other day, too! Was it the one with all the best actors for each character, the one with no audience?
I was enchanted by it... didn't really understand it, but I was enchanted by it. Especially the old woman who sings Memory (forgive me if not knowing her name is an unforgivable crime...). The second she came onstage, it was this strange beauty, this etherealness that caught me by surprise. I was amazed at the fact that they are dancing intricately and singing throughout the WHOLE TWO HOURS. Holy freaking CRAP.
... and Rum Tum Tiger is a sexah beast. ;-)
Meanwhile, rehearsals for Godspell have gotten more intense as we draw nearer to the performance date- next Wednesday is opening night! Our Judas/John has an incredible charisma and (believe it or not) sexual energy lol without even trying! He's extremely attractive without even being that good looking. Our Jesus is tonedeaf and the poor guy was thrown for a loop when we used the band and the timing was different from the CD (which we had been rehearsing with mainly). Peggy has an incredible voice, if she can get her timing right... Robin sounds just like the original, only with a more soprano quality to her voice... Jeffrey is absolutely perfect for the role, sounds exactly like the original, Lamar- I swear he was typecast. His "slow to get things" personality just fits, and his operatic voice is incredibly close to the original as well. Sonia can't sing to save her life, Joanne is extremely talented but brooding, and the two are incredibly mixed up in who their characters are lol Joanne is coming off as more of the prostitute than Sonia, and Sonia is coming off as more the confident, quick to join into things before she even knows whats going on. Herb is hilarious and downright cool. Gilmer... oh Gilmer. That girl (her actress) is going to go big in the broadway world. Has a very Kristin Chenoweth feel to her, and I don't say that about... well, anyone. The chorus is a lot of fun to hang around, though they can get annoying cause they're all younger than me. And clearly envious of the leads.
All in all, it's a lot of fun! Anyone in the Ottawa area should check it out, email me for details if you happen to live nearby!

Everyone's lives are still more interesting than mine, because I'm a boring person! XD lol.
Actually, I went to a Dodgers game today. I don't know how many baseball fans there are on this site, tho'...heck, the only reason I'm even mentioning it is because they friggin' won!! BIG. ^_^ I never get to see my teams win; whenever I go to a game, the home team always loses, so this is kind of a big deal for me. XP

I really don't know how they managed to do all that intricate dancing....particularly Victoria's (the all-white cat) dance, where she raises her leg paralell to her head . Ditto on the "Holy freaking CRAP." BTW, the name of the woman who sings "Memory" is Elaine Paige. She is incredible...wish I could sing like her.

Ah, Cats. I remember when I saw it for the first time ... I was eight years old and it was performed in this huge tent with specky trapezes and rising platforms and spangles everywher ... ::reminisces:: It is a bit of a difficult show to "get", in terms of plot, but the music is great and the dancing is mind-blowing. It looks like it would be a really fun show to do ... if only I could dance! (Oh, well. Perhaps I'll be such a super-stagehand by the end of the week I'll find a Cats production that'll let me do that instead.)
I'm going Sweet Charity crazy at the moment. Our first performance is Thursday evening and it runs until Saturday with two shows on that day, so we're having these freakily intense rehearsals. On Sunday, we were at it for six hours with one fifteen minute break. I have five-and-a-half hour rehearsals after school today and tomorrow, so I don't think I'm getting any homework done this week ... (Which is really awkward, as I have tests Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and exams in two weeks.) Anyway, the show looks like it'll turn out really good, so I'm really looking forward to it (and our Vittorio and Ursula are the funniest thing ever in their scene. They really, erm, go for it ...). The good thing about being a stagehand is that everyone makes a huge deal about you, telling me it's wonderful I give up my afternoons to wheel sets around. Hey, I could think of worse things to do.
Anyway, so that's me at the moment. Rapidly falling behind on homework while having 'Hey, Big Spender' continuously stuck in my head.

Well, of course you can't follow the plot of cats, there isn't really one! I saw it last year when it came here. Em, your play sounds awesome! Too bad I'm way on the other sie of the country. Yours sounds awesome too Angel, too bad I'm on the other side of the world! I guess I should give the update on my play, too, since everyone else is. Well, we still don't have a phantom. They're going to give it to one of our teachers, but we don't know who yet. We only have one guy, and he's playing Raoul. I swear, he has no clue what he's doing. He's obviously never heard the story before. When our acting teacher told him he owns the opera house, he asked if he was the phantom! Other than that, not much going on over here.

Okay, I officially have to have a MEGA *squeeeeeeeeeeee!!!* moment. Ahem.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
*clears throat* I mean... lol. Godspell went so amazingly, incredibly well! It was next to flawless... about as good as it'll get. Mr Boggs was talking about hitting a peak? I think we just hit it!! Timing, characters, SMILES, dance moves... everything was just absolutely perfect. And the entire cast was just absolutely flung into these amazing relationships with eachother... I got two "lift" hugs from Josh and Andy! I even got to know Emily C. really well, and we're now good friends! Ahh.... and this is just opening night!
I _LOVE_ this feeling. I'm ridin' the wave, baby!

Oh, I totally know what you mean, Em! I've just come back from our second Sweet Charity performance ... absolutely unbelievable! Okay, there were a few mishaps (like Vittorio's plate of Brie melting ... don't ask), but on the whole it's been running great! I really love working on this, and the entire cast and crew are really supportive of each other. On opening night, I was just standing gobsmacked in the wings staring out as the chorus performed 'Rhythm of Life' ... the energy was fantastic; I'm SOOO proud of them. I can't believe we only have two more shows

I went to see the theatre group at my school perform last night for the first time. XP They performed "Singin' in the Rain". When I found they were going to perform it, and since I liked the movie so much, I thought "Aww, man, I have to see this...!" XD lol.
You would never have guessed they were a high school group. They were totally awesome! XD They even had members of our band act as a live orchestra (and if I had known, I would have volunteered to play too! Grr...I missed out.) But the performance was so great, I was surprised at how well they followed the movie. I was also amazed at some of the props they had, too.
Heh...it actually rained on the stage during the title number!! ^_^

... Sweet Charity is over! I really can't believe it ... and I'm actually surprised that I had as much fun as I did just being a techie and not a performer (although I definitely want to be on stage next time!) Also, we get much more interesting stories to tell, an exclusive techie party (you had to be wearing all black and be able to recite five set, lighting or fly cues off the top of your head) and the other stagehands and I sneaked the spare ginger ale from the props table afterwards. Couldn't let it go to waste, now, could we? In short, I had a blast, and I am just so darn proud of all the cast members. They were amazing. We got lots of positive comments, but I still reckon my favourites were, "Did you guys have professionals in the wings?" and "Do you reckon the chick who played Oscar would look hot out of costume?" (Oscar was, in fact, played by a guy. The sole male actor in the whole thing. Ah, the joys of going to an all-girls school.) Hi-chan, that sounds awesome I love Singin' in the Rain; I saw it when it came to my city and it was just so much fun! Especially the rain in the title number -- although I'm glad I wasn't sitting in the front row! UPDATE: Just a funny little anecdote I thought I'd share. Last night I went to an eisteddfod to watch one of my friends sing. After his section, there was a music theatre open solo, so I decided to hang around. Now, I seem to recall that towards the beginning of this thread, I mentioned that I went to see Les Mis (would have been about October last year). Anyway, there was a group of the music theatre performers standing around, and one guy catches my eye -- I swear I've seen him somewhere before. Turns out he was the guy who played Marius in the Les Mis show I saw. Small world. (Or, in my case, small town )

I just want to leave a little note to let y'all know I might not be posting much for a bit. For the whole month of June, actually. I'm going down to Miami to stay with my gran for a few weeks, and her internet can be very fickle at times. Then, I'm going to New York the last week of June. I'll work in some posts whenever I can, though- maybe on my cousin's high-speed computer.

Oh, have fun, Lotte! And good luck, Jaycee! Well, I seem to recall that I promised some France photos ... I've finally got them onto my computer. Yes, I'm very lazy So here's a selection: The Eiffel Tower! I tried to get photos of it lit up, but even with flash, they were so dark you could hardly see anything The lovely Notre Dame! (I'm very proud of this photo ) Gargoyles! Arc de Triomphe, taken while walking down the Champs Elysees ... Versailles ... yeah, they were renovating it, which sucked a bit. Musee de Louvre ... awesome. Nice Opera House Yep. That's all. Just kidding The absolutely gorgeous Paris Opera House, Academie Nationale de Musique or whatever else you want to call it. This is where I went camera crazy, but unfortunately, a lot of the photos of the interior were all blurry. Grr. Hope you like these ones, anyway Sorry for the small size, but I didn't want to slow down anyone's computer more than I had to

Looks like my grandma's computer is going to be nice today, so I'm able to say, "Angel, I love the pictures!" Notre Dame looks fantastic, as does everything else. Especially the loverly Paris Opera House that I wish I could see in person. Oh, well- no worries.
Because, at 8:00 P.M. EST, on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, yours truly will be seeing "The Phantom of the Opera" at the Majestic Theater in New York City. *SQUEEEEEE ;D* With seats in the eleventh row, orchestra section, no less.
